Listing folders is not listing subscribers.

Answer Listing folders is not listing subscribers. RFC 5258 describes extensions to the IMAP LIST command. The document is titled Internet Message Access Protocol version 4 - LIST Command Extensions. A list of mailboxes is not a list of people. That is a fact about mail software or about an old specification. It is not a solo ad price, a rank, or proof that a stranger opted in. The subscribers, if there are any, still have to be named as people on an order.

Folders can be listed. People are a different list.

The note that started this: RFC 5258, Internet Message Access Protocol version 4 - LIST Command Extensions, RFC 5258.

A rented send is one letter to someone else's list. That list is people. A mailbox list is folders the mail software can see. Extensions to the LIST command make that folder listing more able. They do not convert a folder into a subscriber. They do not tell you the folder is a niche, a buyers' file, or a crowd that asked for mail. If you are shown folders, you are being shown the seller's organization of mailboxes, not the crowd your letter would reach.

Hold the two lists apart before you pay. The path through solo ads for affiliate marketing still starts with people, not with folders. Ask which people receive this one letter. If the answer is a set of mailbox names, you have not been answered. Write the real list, the sending domain, and the refund line on the order. A command that lists folders cannot write those lines, no matter how complete the folder screen looks.

What does RFC 5258 describe?

RFC 5258 describes extensions to the IMAP LIST command. A list of mailboxes is not a list of people. The document is titled Internet Message Access Protocol version 4 - LIST Command Extensions.

Buyers confuse the word list. In this document, list means mailboxes. In a solo ad, list means people. The same word is doing two jobs, and only one of those jobs is the thing you pay for. Ask the seller to say people when they mean people. If they can only show folders, they are showing mail software. That demonstration can be honest and still be the wrong object. Do not let a familiar word move the money.

Sellers should label the screen before the buyer does it for them. If you show folders, say these are mailboxes. Say they are not segments of subscribers. A buyer who hears segments will expect a send split across those names. You may not be able to do that send, because the names were never people. The refund line becomes the fight you could have avoided by using the duller word. Folders are folders.

Is a list of mailboxes a list of subscribers?

No. Listing folders is not listing subscribers. The LIST command, with its extensions, talks about mailboxes. It does not name the people who would receive a rented letter.

Count nothing from that screen. The document does not give you a count of people, and you should not invent one by staring at folder names. A long list of mailboxes can be a messy desk. A short list of mailboxes can hide a large file of people, or no file at all. The length of the folder list is not evidence. Ask for the people. If the seller cannot point at them without pointing at folders, you are not looking at a solo list.

The seller consequence is the same confusion in the other chair. Do not export a folder listing and call it a subscriber report. You would be handing the buyer a fact about mail software and letting them hear a file. When they ask which strangers opted in, the folder names will not answer. You will have trained them to expect proof the specification never offered.

What belongs on the order instead of a folder list?

A buyer still has to name the list, the sending domain, and the refund line on the order. A folder list is not a solo ad price, a rank, or proof that a stranger opted in.

Name the list in words a stranger could understand as people. Name the domain that will send. Name what happens if the letter does not go to those people from that domain. Leave the mailbox names off the quote, or put them in a note that says they are not the subscribers. A price built on a folder count is a price built on the wrong object. This document is not a solo ad price.

If the call ends on a screen of folders, do not send the money and plan to clarify later. Later is how a mailbox list becomes the thing you thought you bought. The decision to buy solo ads still depends on the people, the domain, and the refund line. RFC 5258 will still be about listing mailboxes. It will not have become a list of subscribers.
